Mashd N Kutcher’s “Get on The Beers” remix has become Australia’s unofficial COVID-19 anthem, and now the Brisbane duo have their sights set on another iconic Australian tune.

After Matt Minor and Adam Morris turned Victorian premier Dan Andrews’ press conference quote, “Get on the beers”, into a viral dance track, they received a number of suggestions about what their next classic Australian remix should be.

“People have been inboxing us and someone has tracked down the guy who made the original Bunnings Warehouse theme song, so I’m totally not against seeing if we can get him into the charts,” Minor said.

“Being based in Australia and growing up here, if there’s an opportunity to put an Aussie cult legend in the spotlight, we’ll take it.”

Two years ago Mashd N Kutcher remixed Frank Walker’s memorable National Tiles advertisement and pranked a German crowd with the track, which led to Walker sampling an introduction for them.

After scheduled shows across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America were cancelled when the global pandemic began in 2020, the pair found themselves unexpectedly at home with little opportunity to collaborate with other artists.

The original “Get on The Beers” remix - released in April - has 3.1 million views, went viral on TikTok and recently reached no. 2 on the iTunes charts.

“You work with what you’ve got. Having press conferences on TV every day was about the most interaction we were having,” Minor said.

“You seem to see more of Dan Andrews on TV than probably any other politician. We watched that (press conference) in the afternoon and the remix itself took maybe two hours together and we just posted it and didn’t think too much of it. It started taking off.”

Their follow up “Zero cases” remix, released last week, notched up 1.2 million views on Facebook in six days.

“It started as something that was a bit of fun. It wasn’t meant to be serious,” Minor said.

“The more people got around it on their own accord it’s grown into what it is now, the unofficial anthem of COVID, in Australia anyway.”

“We have had people message us saying thank you and that it’s kept them in good spirits.”

“On TikTok there’s several thousand videos made at home in isolation using that song. It’s cool to jump on there and see people having a good time to that song.”

“People have held onto it.”
