BE THE king of your own castle or be the dirty rascal who blows it up – the choice is yours with this unique house for sale in Brisbane’s north.
The home at 14 Ashley Rd, Chermside West is known locally as ‘The Castle’.
Stone Real Estate Aspley principal Tristan Rowland said it was built in 1985 and had been sold a couple times since then.
“Originally it belonged to an artist who moved here after residing in England,” Mr Rowland said.
“It’s a very different house, with the Spanish style of it – big archways and brick walls.
“It’s a really unique landmark. People know it very well.”
The home has five bedrooms, four of which are located in the corner ‘turrets’ on the top floor.
Mr Rowland said the home had “incredible ocean views” – not only from the upper level, but from the front door.
“The owners had plans to do a second storey to take advantage of the ocean views,” he said.
“The landings between the bedrooms – they were going to fill them in.
“The owners got drawings done up but they’re not approved by council.”

Mr Rowland said if a potential buyer didn’t wish to renovate, they could also “detonate and subdivide and profit (subject to council approval)”.
“You can destroy the house and start again,” he said.
“There’s room (on the block) for two 12.5m house frontages with views of the ocean.”
The home, which also has three bathrooms and two parking spaces on a 1012 sqm block which backs onto John Goss Reserve, sold in June 2013 for $650,000.
Mr Rowland said he was expecting it to sell in the mid $900,000s.
“We’ve had a few offers so far – two were looking at knocking it down and one to renovate.”
