A BRISBANE boys college is going ahead with its annual open day this month in a unique format prompted by COVID-19 restrictions.

St Joseph’s Nudgee College at Boondall will go online for the event on Saturday, May 16, offering a live address from the principal, messages from current students and a virtual tour of the campus.

College Director of Development and Communications Tara Shipperley said the marketing and events team had spent many hours planning for the inaugural online event.

“When the new COVID-19 restrictions were put in place we knew we had to pivot our original concept for open day,” she said.

“As the world reinvented ways of doing business online, connecting and communicating, we too felt the need to be in this space.

“Open Day Online means that we can reach families all across Queensland, Australia, and abroad. The scope is actually larger than what our normal open day would be, which is really exciting.

“While we won’t be able to showcase everything online that we would normally have at our open day – such as science experiments and art demonstrations – we still feel that families and boys will get a great insight into our offerings at Nudgee College.

“We also have a vast library of video content on the College’s YouTube page that will help fill this void a little bit too.”

On the day, prospective families will hear from some of the younger students and the college captain, as well as the Deans of Learning and Teaching, Boarding and Students.

Interested families need to pre-register for Open Day Online via the college website.

Ms Shipperley said they hoped to incorporate “learnings” from the open day into future events.

“It would certainly be beneficial to offer an online event to families who may not otherwise be able to attend, as well as for our prospective boarding families who come from all over Australia,” she said.

“We are not aware of any other Brisbane schools who are offering an experience like ours. It would be great for prospective families to have this option available to them during times of isolation and social distancing.”
