An ex-Gympie youth who has since moved to Brisbane has pleaded guilty to a six-month drug operation, discovered in the wake of a wild public brawl.

Is cannabis actually effective in treating pain?

Investigations into a wild public melee and bashing uncovered a six-month drug trafficking operation, a court has heard.

Stafford Heights man Kieran Peter Brough, 23, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to counts of drug trafficking and possessing a dangerous drug.

The drug trafficking was committed between June 1 and December 15, 2019, when Brough was arrested and charged.

Brough trafficked in street-level quantities of cannabis and MDMA, providing drugs on credit in the early stages of his operation, sending out bulk messages to his customers, threatening customers in debt to recoup funds, and even hatching a plan with an associate to bash a debtor.

Brough’s trafficking operation was discovered in the course of police investigations into a public brawl committed two days prior to Brough’s arrest, on December 13, 2019.

The defendant was charged with affray and assault occasioning bodily harm in company while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

In January this year, in the Gympie Magistrates Court, Brough was sentenced to 100 hours’ community service and 12 months’ imprisonment with immediate parole.

It was submitted on Brough’s behalf he had mental health issues which led him to his drug offending.

The court heard he had found employment in an EB Games distribution warehouse following his move to Brisbane.

Brough was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment with immediate release on parole.
