Jaydin Riki-Wren, Rachel Stamp, Fraser Brown and Heidi Mason-Webb guilty of violent robbery

Four Brisbane friends hatched up a scheme involving fake prostitutes in a bid to rob their unsuspecting victims a court has heard.

Four Brisbane friends, extremely intoxicated and three of them high on prescription medication, lured two men into an inner-city apartment complex under the guise of offering a prostitution service before bashing and robbing them, a court has heard.

Kedron man Jaydin Anthony Riki-Wren, 21, Lutwyche woman Rachel Jane Stamp, 22, Newstead man Fraser James Brown, 24, and his girlfriend Heidi Lee Mason-Webb, 21, of Mango Hill, all pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Tuesday to robbery in company with personal violence and attempted robbery in company.

The court heard both offences occurred about 3.30am on June 21 last year at a complex in Bowen Hills.

The two Indian-Australian victims were met in the complex’s lobby by Stamp, who introduced herself as the prostitutes’ manager, checking to see if the men had the agreed sum of $600.

She escorted them upstairs, with Mason-Webb closing the door behind them once inside.

When the victims had moved to the bathroom, Stamp whispered, “Go, go, go,” which was the signal for Brown and Riki-Wren to emerge from the bedroom, the court heard.

The first victim was manhandled by Brown, dropping his wallet, while Riki-Wren punched the second victim in the head and chest multiple times when he emerged.

The dropped wallet was emptied and both men had cash taken off them before they fled in terror to call the police.

A video recording on Stamp’s phone shows the foursome discussing how to divvy up the cash and Riki-Wren bragging about his role in the robbery.

The friends were arrested later that morning.

It was submitted on all the defendants’ behalf they were extremely intoxicated and had no recollection of the offending.

It was agreed that Riki-Wren was the instigator and ringleader.

All defendants had minor criminal histories, with Riki-Wren’s the worst, being on probation at the time of the current offences, the court heard.

Defence solicitor Justin Sibley, speaking on behalf of clients Brown and Mason-Webb, described the robbery as “haphazard and poorly thought out”.

He noted the pair had just purchased a house together and Brown was employed full-time as a bar manager and sommelier.

He said Brown, who previously abused cocaine and alcohol, had cut out dangerous drugs from his life and only drank in moderation.

Mr Sibley said Mason-Webb had stepped away from her call-centre job about a month prior to focus on her mental health.

Stamp worked as a casual City Cat attendant, the court heard, while Riki-Wren was unemployed.

Stamp, Mason-Webb and Riki-Wren all had issues with prescription medication abuse, the court heard.

Judge Vicki Loury QC was impressed with Stamp’s efforts at rehabilitation but less than impressed by the others’, especially Mason-Webb’s.

Riki-Wren was ordered to serve six months of a two-year head sentence until his release on parole on March 11 next year.

Stamp was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of two years and ordered to pay $1500 compensation to her victims.

Convictions were recorded against all defendants.
