The court heard Plant intended to use the bat as a weapon to beat up the man he believed to be sleeping with his wife.
The wife called police to alert them Plant was en route to the man’s house, and they were able to safely intercept him before he hurt anyone.
The wooden bat was found inside the car with two nails sticking out on each side of the handle.
Plant, a father of four with no criminal history, told police he had the weapon in case the other man also had a weapon and he needed to defend himself.
Magistrate Trevor Morgan told Plant he should consider himself lucky.
“If this went too much further and the situation deteriorated to the extent of using a weapon you’d be facing years and years in jail,” Mr Morgan said.
“The injuries you could’ve caused with a weapon like that are quite serious.”
