In storm conditions, Wong flew around the bend in 21.76 seconds to obliterate the 1998 100m Qld Schools 200m record of 21.88 and the 1992 QLD athletics u16 200m record of 21.85.

His blistering 200m effort followed his first sub-11 second run to win the 15 years 100 in a Queensland record time for his age group.

It was a Queensland schools 100m record for 15-year-old boys.

“I’m not sure who was more surprised, my parents, my coach or my fellow competitors,’’ Wong said.

He then added two more gold medals, a silver medal, two Queensland records and an Australian Championship record at the meet.

The Wavell Height resident, who nominates Usain Bolt and Aspley Athletics Club product Alex Hartmann as the favourite athletes, said it was rewarding to have success after all the hard training.

“You do all the hard work training — getting up early, running hills, reps, starts, more reps, dry needling, sports massage, chiro and physio — and then it all comes together … or you pull a hammy,’’ he said in reference to injuring his hamstring three times in 2018.

“I’m also lucky to have a fantastic training squad. They’re there to support you when you give everything you’ve got.’’

Wong is a junior from the Bracken Ridge Little Athletics Club who now runs for Nudgee College and QUT Athletics.
