A lack of off-street parking has made a popular Brisbane water park almost impossible, and unsafe, for some families to access, says a council candidate.

Labor’s candidate for The Gap ward Daniel Bevis has blasted the LNP council for failing to provide enough parking at the Ferny Grove Aqua Park, but has not committed to fixing the problem.
Mr Bevis said poor planning meant the Aqua Park, at Keperra Picnic Grounds, was almost impossible to access for some families.
“Locals are being forced to park illegally and dangerously because of a lack of car parks, making it unsafe for our kids,” Mr Bevis said.

“I’ve counted, at some points, more cars parked along the street than there are actually car parks (at the park).
He has launched a petition to gather support for more parking. See danielbevis.com.au.
In January, 2019, a petition started by Upper Kedron resident Pamela Rose-Holt was signed by 326 people.
In response to the petition, council said it had completed an investigation, considered the request and passed it on to Cr Steve Toomey (The Gap) for consideration.
Before the Aqua Park was built there were 10 parking spaces and one disabled bay at Keperra Picnic Grounds. That was increased to 23 spaces, including one disabled bay, and two minibus bays.
Mr Bevis said more parking would “certainly be a priority for me if elected”, but did not promise anything specific.
Mrs Rose-Holt said that in response to her petition, council staff told her the aqua park parking met requirements.
Cr Toomey was not available for interview before the News’ deadline.
