A Brisbane mother says she was left horrified after walking in on a ‘weird teen orgy’ in a Westfield shopping centre parents’ room at the weekend.
Ashton Grohn said she was at Westfield North Lakes on Sunday, November 6, about 1.30pm, with her two-year-old daughter when she was confronted with the graphic scene.
“I walked in on what I can only describe as some weird orgy,” she said.
“Four teenagers having sex on the bench near the microwave and then moved into one of the breastfeeding cubicles.”
Ms Grohn said there was also lots of swearing from the teens.
“I didn’t feel comfortable saying anything to them as there were four of them and only me and my daughter,” she said.
“I threw my daughter, half dressed and the contents of my change bag into our trolley and left.
“I honestly will never be using the parents’ room without someone else with me.”
Things only got worse for Ms Grohn when she went to report the incident to centre staff.
“I’m so mad … they were giggling between each other and said ‘oh so it’s still going on down there, ewww.’
“This made me even more mad and upset as they clearly didn’t care for any parents who use the room.”
Ms Grohn said a security guard took her complaint seriously, that she had been in contact with the centre manager since, and had reported the matter to police.
North Lakes locals took to social media to share in the traumatised mother’s disgust.
“I’ve walked in on all sorts of teenagers in the breastfeeding rooms getting up to no good especially on Thursday nights, it’s disgusting how Westfield let them get away with it, something needs to be done,” another mum said.
“And in nine months’ time they’ll probably be having to use those parents’ rooms for their babies,” one local said.
“It’s sad that we now may need security for parents’ rooms, absolutely appalling behaviour! Unreal,” another North Lakes resident said.
A Westfield North Lakes spokesperson said they took reports of customer-related incidents very seriously.
“Our team responded appropriately to the report of an incident at Westfield North Lakes and followed it through with our risk and security team and the customer,” they said.
“At this stage we have not been contacted by QPS [Queensland Police Service] in relation to the matter. We would provide full support to any of their inquiries.”
QPS have been contacted for comment.
