When the Breakfast Creek Hotel went up for sale, it was such big news Midnight Oil sang about it in Dreamworld.
They might now be moved to update the song, from their classic Diesel and Dust album, to say it closed after going underwater during the recent flood.
But there is good news for fans of its famous steaks and cold ales.
After being closed for cleaning and repairs for the past fortnight, the landmark Albion pub looks like it could turn the beer taps back on and fire up the grillers on Friday.
Adjacent Breakfast Creek, from which the 133-year-old hotel gets its name, burst its banks causing major flooding in Albion.
Upmarket Mica French brasserie on the opposite bank of the creek also had to close.
“Despite all efforts, we have run into some reopening issues and have closed the hotel until further notice,’’ managers posted on March 8.
“We are heartbroken by this but, as always, we will be back in no time.’’
An updated post on March 11 said the hotel was still closed, but it is now expected to reopen on March 18.
While not as devastating as the epic 1893 flood, this time water was up to several feet deep, causing extensive damage and leaving furniture and surfaces coated in stinking mud.
But an army of helpers turned out to pressure clean chairs, tables, floors and more.
Staff are back inside restoring the pub to order.
