Softball Australia is finalising a 23-member national squad that will travel to the United States for the National Professional Fastpitch league prior to the Olympics.

In the US, the the side will compete under the banner of the Aussie Peppers of Minnesota.

The Peppers successfully played in the Fastpitch League last year, the world’s best softball competition, which contributed to Australia’s outstanding performance at the 2019 WBSC Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualifier tournament.

Aussie Spirit catcher Carmelle Sorensen, who along with fellow Tokyo Olympic contenders played in the recent Pacific Cup series and Summer Slam, can barely believe she is on the verge of representing Australia at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

And once at the Olympics, the Everton Hills resident believes Australia can shake up the tournament and push for an Olympic gold medal.

“We have all the tools and resources and drive to win it, ‘’ she said. “It comes down to each individual girl doing the one percentages and doing them every single day to the best of our ability and striving for that perfect training session’’.

Currently Australia sits fifth behind the USA, Japan, China and Canada.

Sorensen, an Australian representative since 2011, said it was “super exciting’’ to think she could be playing at an Olympics. “It is a very humbling opportunity that is in front of me,’’ she said.

“Everyday I am excited to go to training. It is something I have never been to before and I am itching to be a part of.’’

But she said it was important the team concentrated on little goals along the way.

The 23 member squad, which will play in the USA from May, will be cut to 15 for the Olympics.
