A BRISBANE cat was lucky to escape with all nine lives intact after a two and a half metre-long python took over the feline’s indoor scratching post.
Brisbane North Snake Catchers and Relocation owner Steven Brown said the cat escaped when its Bald Hills owner returned home on Thursday and opened her bedroom door.
“The owner came home to let it out and wondered why the cat took off out the door,” Mr Brown said.
“She looked inside and saw there was a big snake part way through the window and lying on the cat’s scratching pole.

“The cat was lucky. It’s not very common for a snake to eat a cat but it can happen.
“It could have eaten the cat, the size it was.
“Because it’s starting to get cooler snakes are looking for as much food as possible. I assume there was no other reason for it to be there.

“A 2.5 metre snake is a fair size and it wasn’t happy.
“It looked like it was in feed mode. It was curled up ready to have a crack at me when I was there.”
Mr Brown identified the snake as a coastal carpet python.
