A WOMAN who while more than four times the legal limit crashed her vehicle so severely the engine fell out and wheels were “sheered off” has avoided a conviction.

Appearing at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court yesterday, Anna Barbara Cis, 36, pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor.

The court heard Cis had required nine staples for a head wound after having a “very serious crash” at around 5.50pm on September 22 on Old Northern Rd in Albany Creek.

Tests would later confirm Cis had a blood-alcohol level of 0.202.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Graham Turner said the defendant had hit street signs, driven into oncoming traffic, flipped her vehicle onto its side and crashed into two other vehicles, seriously damaging one.

“Police observed the engine to be on the floor and both the wheels had been sheered off from the axle,” Sen Sgt Turner said.

“Police observed a smashed bottle of wine in the vehicle and a smashed bottle of wine at her feet.”

Cis’ defence solicitor Andrew Wiseman said his client was a Polish migrant seeking Australian citizenship, had a masters degree in arts and was employed as a property administrator.

“She basically consumed the wine over a five-hour period while at home,” Mr Wiseman said.

“She has no recollection of going on her journey and she was devastated when she learned what had happened.

“She has sought counselling, completed a course and done everything she can to avoid this happening again.

“The event was clearly out of character.”

Magistrate Trevor Morgan acknowledged Cis’ “excellent history and references” and no like offending.

“No doubt she will be very substantially out of pocket with the damage caused to the various vehicles,” Mr Morgan said.

Cis was fined $900 and disqualified from driving for seven months, in addition to the time already spent disqualified.

No convictions were recorded.
