An application has been lodged to allow the public to be able to dive in to a recently approved aquatic centre north of Brisbane.

The aquatic precinct at North Lakes could soon be open to all after developers lodged plans acknowledging the centre as “vital community infrastructure”.

The aquatic precinct, at 2 College Street, is set to include a 25m lap pool, learn to swim pool and associated facilities.

Moreton Bay Regional Council approved the aquatic extension to The Lakes College on June 28 this year.

The co-educational private school, administered by the Uniting Church, provides education to students from prep to year twelve.

The project is set to be constructed over two stages, with stage one to include a 25m eight lane swimming pool, male and female amenities and staff facilities, a pump house and new footpaths around the school for access.

A five lane learn-to-swim pool and an elevated grandstand with a seating capacity of 500 people is included in the second stage works.

According to the planning report, “the Lakes College has recognised the importance of this facility to be used by members of the public as vital piece of community infrastructure.”

“ This will allow members of the surrounding community to use these modern facilities that the College has to offer for leisure, training and competitive purposes.

“Accordingly, the proposed development seeks approval for an Outdoor recreation land use in order to enable members of the public to use this facility.”

The proposed changes will allow the general public to use the aquatic centre for learn to swim classes, squad and individual training and quarterly yearly swim meets.

Hours of operation are proposed as 6.00am – 10.00pm, seven days a week with public access hours not available during school hours.

The Lakes College has been contacted for comment on the application.
