A North Lakes teen pulled the hair of a 19 year-old girl with such force on the dance floor of a Brisbane nightclub that the victim was knocked unconscious.
Paris Cheylysse Sims, 18, was ordered on August 3, 2022, in Redcliffe Magistrates Court, to complete 100 hours of unpaid community service after pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard that at 1.15am on April 10 2022, Sims attended Retro’s nightclub in Fortitude Valley with the victim and mutual friends.
At 2am, Sims was dancing with friends before she approached the victim from behind and pulled her hair with such force, that she fell backwards and hit her head on the dance floor.
The court heard Sims left the club after the assault while the 19 year-old victim was unconscious on the dance floor before being taken to hospital.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Timothy Clare said the victim and Sims attended the same school and had mutual friends.
The court heard that earlier in the evening Sims had become jealous when she saw her ex-partner talking to the victim.
“She did inform police that prior to the incident she’d been drinking heavily and was grossly intoxicated and has patchy recollection of the incident,” Sergeant Clare said.
Defence lawyer Vanessa Ryan highlighted Sims has been working at Specsavers for five months since graduating high school last year and that Sims claimed she had a ‘good upbringing’.
Handing down the sentence, Judge Mark Bucknall said Sims should consider herself lucky she wasn’t being taken to jail.
“Fortunately for you, there was no intracranial haemorrhages or the like and it was deemed to be a minor head injury,’’ Judge Bucknall said.
“It could’ve easily been a far worse outcome than that and you could have potentially been facing more serious charges in court.”
Sims was sentenced to complete 100 hours of unpaid community service.
No conviction was recorded.
