FAMILY is at the heart of a hair salon celebrating its new location in the north of Brisbane.

Moonshine hair salon at Endeavour Boulevard in North Lakes was started by the faith a parent had in her children.

Owner and salon co-ordinator Desley Moon was inspired to purchase a salon 14 years ago inspired by her daughter and salon head stylist, Bree’s talents.

“Bree was still an apprentice and we wanted to give her a start in life,” Desley said.

“I knew she was going to be a really good stylist and when my son Rio decided he wanted to be in it we decided ‘let’s do this’.

“And that is what we try and cultivate here; we are very family oriented.”

With a customer base going back 14 years and a staff of senior stylists that has remained stable for the past five years – bar the recent addition of a third-year apprentice – Moonshine liked to keep things steady.

Boasting three master colourists Desley said the business offered it’s own flavour among North Lakes’ proliferation of hair salons.

“North Lakes was built to be like a self-serviced community and businesses are cultivating that climate for them so people don’t really need to leave the area,” she said.

“And each salon offers its own atmosphere and level of service.

“Every salon attracts it’s own kind of customers, it just depends on how your stylists relate to the clients they service.”

Desley said they enjoyed getting to know customers.

“We encourage the stylists to get to know all the clients, not just their own, so we form a real team culture,” she said.

“You find out about them and form really good friendships and it becomes like a little community within the salon.”

The owner said they specialised across the board and offered services for upstyling, formal style, colouring and cutting.

Moonshine hair salon is at 106/53 Endeavour Blvd.
