Drunk hoon Tobias Best of Dakabin crashes car doing a burnout at Mango Hill

A southeast Queensland man has been ordered off the roads after drunkenly crashing his car north of Brisbane in “attention-grabbing” driving manoeuvre, but the excuse he gave court painted a different picture.

A Dakabin man has been disqualified from driving after a failed hooning attempt saw him drunkenly crash his car into a tree at Mango Hill.

Tobias Best pleaded guilty to driving to cause unnecessary noise or smoke and driving while under the influence of alcohol at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard Best had a few drinks at the Mango Hill Tavern before he got behind the wheel of his grey Holden sedan at around 9pm on January 19.

Best had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.10, double the legal driving limit.

According to police prosecutor sergeant Graham Turner, Best was driving on Halpine Rd when he did a “long skid up a driveway, for about 30 metres, then fishtailed and crashed into a tree”.

Police arrived on scene to find skid marks across the road and the self-identified driver, Best, standing beside the damaged vehicle trying to organise for it to be towed away.

Best told police he was being followed by someone and had slammed his foot on the accelerator in a desperate attempt to get away from them.

“You certainly drew attention to yourself,” said Magistrate Trevor Morgan.

Best was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for five months.

No conviction was recorded.
