A 21-year-old film student is going viral on TikTok – with almost 1 million followers, sponsorship deals and now an acting gig.
Maddi Beazley, better known by Tik Tokkers as BeazKnees, started using the social media platform in 2019.
“TikTok was not a big thing then, some friends had the App and told me to get it,” Miss Beazley said.
“I thought as not many people were using it, that it would be a good chance for me to be myself as no one was going to see it – but the App took off and a lot of people ended up seeing my content.”
TikTok is a video sharing platform where users share videos of themselves singing, dancing, baking or even giving make-up tutorials.
Miss Beazley’s content features lip syncs, make-up and costume challenges. She is well known for changing her look, even colouring and cutting her hair, to impersonate well-known characters.
“I started to get a lot of comments that I looked like people I never thought I looked like, so I started dressing up like them,” the QUT film student said.
She now has 780,000 followers and has attracted 23.5 million likes on her content and several sponsorship deals.
“It is wild, the first company I worked with was Sims, which is something I grew up playing. It was really surreal,” Miss Beazley, who graduated from North Lakes State College in 2018, said.
She didn’t state how much she makes from the advertising deals but Miss Beazley said she still had a part-time job as a pizza delivery driver.
While the videos might only last a few seconds Miss Beazley spends hours putting them together.
“I’m obsessive about them,” Miss Beazley said. “I never film with people around and I make them at night time. I start at around 10pm when everyone else is in bed and finish around 3am.”
Miss Beazley said a career in filmmaking is the ultimate goal and that TikTok was a great platform to test out all the skills she is learning in university.
Despite not wanting to be an actor Miss Beazley recently starred in a TikTok series – Love Songs.
The series, produced in partnership with Tinder, follows 19 year-old Mia, played by Miss Beazley, on her journey as she discovers the new world of dating through Tinder and the many different open-ended paths of opportunity that it will introduce.
Miss Beazley said it is not something she ever imagined would happen when she first started using TikTok.
She said her management team had suggested she audition but “I didn’t expect to get the role or it to be as awesome as it was”.
“I grew up wanting to be an actor but I don’t think I’m cut out for the limelight,” Miss Beazley said.
The series has already attracted a large following and Miss Beazley said people were even stopping her in the street to chat about it.
Her advice for others looking to explore the platform was to “just do it”.
“You have absolutely nothing to lose,” Miss Beazley said.
“There is a place for everyone on TikTok and once you start putting content that you love up, people who also love it will find it.
“It is worth the risk.”
