A “next generation” childcare centre opening early next year will boast an indoor forest, Japanese Zen garden, art studio, bike path, free coffee and an “alfresco dining piazza” with an in-house chef cooking meals for both kids and parents.

The 101-place, $7 million centre will open at Brisbane Technology Park, Eight Mile Plains in January 2021, with the built environment of the centre to be a “powerful third teacher”, according to Sunkids operations manager Kaylene Harper.

A newly released video flythrough of the proposed designs show the two-storey centre full of towering palm trees, leafy ferns, the dining pizza, a bike track, performance stage, a “Tropical” sandpits, art studio, interactive gardens, a rocky mock-riverbed, water play pump, and a Japanese Zen garden.

Ms Harper said future parents would also receive a complimentary coffee per day, access flexible sessions of care from 6:30am – 6:30pm to fit their work schedules, participate in a ‘Transitioning Back to Work Program’ if they were new parents, and be able to have a sit-down lunch with their kids to escape the office.

“We pride ourselves on going above and beyond to make parent’s lives just that little bit easier,” Ms Harper said.

“Every aspect of planning that went into the Brisbane Technology Park site centred around the importance of family and how we could incorporate exceptional learning in an environment that understands busy family lives.”

Ms Harper said the design of the centre “embodies the Reggio-Emilia approach to early education (which) embraces the environment as a powerful third teacher”.

The future centre will cater to babies from six-weeks-old through to school age and will offer a Government-approved kindergarten program.
