An exciting new venture at Samford, inspired by the wizarding world of Harry Potter has opened, offering a magical experience and endless tasty treats.

Hannah McGrath, AGE, is no stranger to Samford Village having opened The Store of Requirement in 2017, Australia’s largest hub for Harry Potter merchandise.

Mrs McGrath said her and her business partner Sharon Hurley’s new venture, The Owlery Cafe, is a unique and quirky cafe experience where guests can sit and lounge with a latte and enjoy the beautiful scenery, the themed and decorated rooms and serenity of the pond.

“We are a family run business and we pride ourselves on bringing a magical experience to the community both local and wide reaching,” Mrs McGrath said.

“The success from the Store of Requirement allowed us to explore more services to offer our customers and bring a sense of community to all.

“We had a mobile food van called The Trollee prior to opening the cafe, which also provided magical drinks and ice-creams, so expanding into a building was the next step up for us,” she said.

Being a massive Harry Potter fan herself, Mrs McGrath said she is as devoted to the wizarding world “as a house elf is to their master”.

Mrs McGrath said the cafe is not just for Harry Potter fans and enthusiasts.

“You don’t need to be a Harry Potter fan to appreciate the intricate designs, amazing collection of decorations and the thought that has gone into every nook and cranny of this beautiful old building,” Mrs McGrath said.

“We serve a magical array of food including themed drinks, cakes and slices for all food lovers.

“For our Harry Potter enthusiasts they will understand the subtle hints we allude to with some of our food and drinks … All of our food is fresh and delicious and will appeal to everyone,” she said.

The Owlery Cafe concept had been in a work in progress for years until Mrs McGrath secured the premises at Station Road in October 2023.

“We renovated for five months and have transformed an old and tired building into something truly amazing for all to enjoy,” Mrs McGrath said.

“Our rooms are rustily themed with plenty of Owl inspiration, as well as small nods to Harry Potter and the magical world, even our bathrooms are themed and something to behold.
