WINNING Business of the Year at last year’s Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence & Innovation Awards has given the owners of Flock Eatery the opportunity to strengthen community connections and not just in the cafe.
The Redcliffe business is owned by Geoff and Lexie Abel and also won an award for Environment and Sustainability Excellence at the ceremony, donating their $500 in prize money to Loop Growers at Draper.
Lexie says winning both awards, having a higher profile and being able to network with other businesses has enabled them to connect with a greater number of sustainable growers. It’s something they are really excited about.
“It was really beneficial for us to narrow down and clearly articulate what Flock is about,” she says.
The wins have also been good for business with a noticeable boost in trade, which has not waned. Lexie says they won’t nominate themselves this year, instead hoping other businesses can benefit from being involved.
Their focus now is on their business and plans to create a community garden network on the Redcliffe Peninsula.
Lexie says it would be ideal if there were more community gardens, so people can get involved and businesses like theirs can support them by buying produce.
Nominations for this year’s Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence and Innovation Awards open on July 1.
