CUTE, fluffy, long and scaly, whatever your preference, you’ll have the chance to enjoy them up close at the Old Petrie Town Animal Expo on June 30.
The event, in its third year, draws massive crowds — proof we really do love animals.
Old Petrie Town general manager Nicholas Dodd says about 20,000 are expected to enjoy animal shows, talks, displays, petting zoo, pony rides and much more. “We have prided ourselves on being able to put together an event that showcases everything from insects to llamas, which is fun, interactive and educational,” Nicholas explains.
“It supports a whole range of rescue groups, that wouldn’t have a platform to inform the public about their services without the expo.”
Headlining this year’s event is Animal Planet’s Snake Boss, aka Julia Baker. Her shows at 9am, 11am and 1pm are expected to be hugely popular.
The Mini Allstars horse show is debuting and is also tipped to draw a crowd, as will the Kitten Show presented by the Queensland Independent Cat Council (QICC).
Wildlife rescue groups caring for koalas, snakes and reptiles, bees, native animals and more will be happy to chat to visitors about their work and how we can all protect native wildlife. There will also be children’s rides and activities, market stalls, food hall and all the park’s shops and museums will be open.
Admission is free to the event, which runs from 8am-2pm.
“It’s an interactive day of fun and learning, and an opportunity of seeing some weird and wonderful creatures up close and personal,” Nicholas says.
