COMMUNITY activities will be a highlight of the free festival celebrating the 100th anniversary of Samford as a village.
The festival marks the rich history of the village, which was established in 1918 with the arrival of the railway line.
During the same year, O’Hara’s Hotel shifted from the former CSIRO land to its present location; the community Public Hall and Farmer’s Hall were both built and fettler’s cottages were constructed for the railway workers.
The community continued to grow as servicemen and servicewomen returned from the war and businesses started to relocate to be near the railway line
To celebrate, the community has three huge weeks of festivities planned as part of the Samford 100 Festival, which continues until November 11.
A highlight is the free Festival in the Park, to be held on Saturday, November 3, at the John Scott and Alan Cash parks from noon to 9pm.
There will be free entertainment on stage, a makers’ market, historical displays, military demonstrations, food trucks, rides and plenty of workshops and activities for kids.
Bring a picnic rug to watch The Light Horseman on the big screen under the stars from 7pm.
The Farmer’s Hall will host dance and theatre acts from various groups, along with colonial dancing, performances by the Samford Community Choir and a photo exhibition.
For a gold coin donation, visit Samford Historical Museum, featuring military displays showing the evolution of service from WWI through to today.
Other highlights include:
Another Night to Remember, Farmer’s Hall, October 27
Centenary of WWI Armistice service, Samford Valley Church, November 4
Samford Valley Markets, November 10.
