Moreton Bay Region is full of ghoulishly-good options for a scare this Halloween.

But if you’re looking for something family-friendly, the Caboolture Historical Village will open its doors for some spooky fun on Halloween night.

Get dressed up for games, and take a self-guided tour through some very old, and possibly haunted parts of the village including the old hospital and morgue.

There are about 75 buildings on the site, some of which are more than a 100 years old.

Caboolture Historical Village events co-ordinator Anne Relph says there are definitely some spooky parts of the village to investigate for the Ghoulies and Ghosties Halloween event.

“The old hospital is quite spooky, and the cemetery, and the old morgue,” she says.

“We are expecting about 2000 people this year to come along for a good scare.”

The hospital was originally a family home at Caboolture, before being turned into Riverview Private Hospital between 1920 and 1939. And while there are no records of just how many patients received treatment or met their end there, volunteers claim they have felt a presence in the old hospital. Some Halloween thrillseekers were so scared, they didn’t make it through the ghost tour of the building at last year’s event.

The beautiful old Bauer House (also known as Glenowen Homestead) would likely have witnessed some deaths over the years. One ghostly tale involves a security guard who was on duty during a music festival. The guard swears that, as he was doing his rounds, he heard a young lady enjoying a party inside the locked building. Entry is $5 per person, and it’s on October 31 from 4.30-8.30pm.

The House of Horrors Annual Halloween Spooktacular Maze returns for its sixth year with promises of a “terrifying experience” and free treats for children who run the gauntlet to complete the maze.

Hundreds of children have descended on the Caboolture South party in previous years. There will be a DJ, light show, cupcakes, hotdogs, snowcones, and jewellery on sale.

It’s at 67 Ronald Crt, Caboolture South, on October 31 from 7-10pm.

Four Mile Creek Hotel at Strathpine has Halloween covered with spooky movies, a best-dressed competition, colouring in, face painting, and free treat bags with every kids’ meal purchased.

Catch it on October 31 from 5.30pm.
