THEY may have a hit song named Deception Bay, but the boys from Boo Seeka are coming to Sandstone Point to celebrate summer this month.
Singer Ben Gumbleton says he and Sam Croft are keen to play a gig at their song’s namesake, but half an hour up the highway is as close as they can get for now.
The Sydney-based musicians, known for their “hip-hop/R&B driven grooves” and “beats that vibe” are playing a free gig as part of the Corona Sunsets Festival at Sandstone Point Hotel on December 15.
“If anyone shows up from Deception Bay, let us know,” Ben says.
The song Deception Bay was ranked number 50 on the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2016.
Ben says he had written the lyrics and was looking for the perfect chorus.
In a moment he describes as “almost an epiphany”, he was driving on the Bruce Hwy and saw a sign for Deception Bay.
Ben says it was a perfect fit for the song, which is about people tricked by their subconscious.
“So thanks to the council for putting the sign on the highway,” Ben says, laughing.
It will be on the bill for the Corona Sunsets Festival, which is travelling to 20 venues across five states in November and December.
Sandstone Point is the second-last gig on the tour before it heads to Byron Bay.
“Corona do this each year, they pick a band and take them on the road and do shows for the public to launch the summer,” Ben says.
“We were super stoked to get the call up this year.”
He says since they formed they’ve never played a free show and this was a great way to thank their fans.
“We’re really looking forward to it and so happy to do this for our supporters,” he says.
What can fans expect from the show?
Ben says it will be a high-energy, fun gig.
“There may be a couple of surprises … but we want to play all the songs everyone wants to hear,” he says.
