WHACK on some sunscreen, a pair of thongs, your favourite Aussie T-shirt and head along to one of the region’s seaside destinations for an Australia Day to remember.
It will be a ripper time for families when Aussie-themed festivities and free activities take over Suttons Beach at Redcliffe, and Brennan Park, Bribie Island, from 3-8pm on January 26.
From beach sports and tasty food to fireworks and activities for the kids, there’s something for everyone, including a lamington-eating competition for those coco-nutty enough to take on the challenge.
Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) chief executive Shane Newcombe says there will be plenty of entertainment options for those heading to either location to celebrate.
“In addition to the great location and amenities, visitors will be treated to free entertainment, activities and live music from local artists, topped off with a fireworks display at 8pm,” he says.
A range of food trucks and local seaside restaurants will satisfy everyone’s appetite on the big day.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland says Suttons Beach has been a popular spot with families for decades with free parking, barbecues, bike paths and play equipment.
“Many childhood memories have been made at Suttons Beach,” Cr Sutherland says.
“Why not make some more this coming Australia Day by heading down to the beach with your loved ones?”
Bribie Island’s balmy waters and sunny outlook also set the scene for the perfect Australia Day celebration.
“The main stage will host some great live entertainment throughout the day including wonderful local music acts,” Mr Newcombe says. “Families will be able to hit the sand and enjoy beach-themed activities before enjoying a refreshing swim in the crystal waters off the Bongaree waterfront.”
“Make Australia Day last the whole weekend by booking accommodation and experiences on the Visit Moreton Bay Region website,” he says.
Cr Sutherland says Bribie Island is a prime location for Australia Day festivities.
“Where better to host an event like this than right beside one of the most beautiful beaches in our region?” he asks.
Australia Day in Redcliffe and on Bribie Island is presented by Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) in partnership with Moreton Bay Regional Council.
