THE Jetty 2 Jetty team is putting the call-out for runners to donate the shirt — quite literally — off their back and give it to a young person in need.

On Sunday, July 21 the annual J2J will be joining with charity Chameleon House to gather donations of jumpers and blankets to support young people facing a housing crisis.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism chief executive Shane Newcombe is asking runners to think of those less fortunate as they pull off their jumpers at the start line.

“Everyone knows the morning of J2J is usually very chilly, and it’s a good opportunity to get the runners thinking about the young people in our community doing it tough,” Shane says.

“To help make it easy and convenient for runners, donation bins will be located throughout the Kindred Healthy Living Expo on race day.”

Runners don’t just have to donate to Chameleon House to support their work in the community.

“We are pleased to announce that this year’s J2J Charity Partner will be Chameleon House, and a percentage of each race registration fee will go directly to the charity, hopefully raising more than $10,000 for this fantastic cause.”

Chameleon House provides crisis accommodation for young people and young parenting families in need of safety and shelter. The organisation has been a beacon of light for the Redcliffe community for almost 30 years.

Chameleon House spokeswoman Carmel Riethmuller says the charity provided 5500 bed nights to young people who were homeless in 2018.

“We (Chameleon House) are the only specialist homeless service on the Peninsula and have been operating for over 30 years,” Carmel says.

“We currently manage five transitional properties for young families aged 18 to 25 with small children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. These properties can support up to 30 people at any one time.”

Participants in the J2J have four race distances to choose from: GKS Law Half marathon (21.1km), Village Motors 10km, Ballycara 5km or Sesame Lane 3km.

Runners in the 21.1km and 10km events will receive a 2019 J2J singlet, while 3km and 5km participants receive a 2019 J2J cap.

The Kindred Healthy Living Expo returns, showcasing local products, services and experts in active living, health and wellness.

The Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run is brought to you by Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) and Moreton Bay Road Runners, and partnered with Moreton Bay Regional Council and major sponsor Kindred.
