Former Tasmanian politician Adam Richard Brooks has appeared in a Queensland court for the first time after being arrested in relation to weapons and fraud charges last week.

Mr Brooks, 45, has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a category H weapon, unauthorised possession of explosives and dealing with identity items.

Police allegedly found the items while executing a search warrant at a Marine Pde address in Redcliffe on May 12.

Police said a handgun and false driver’s licences were seized during the search.

It is understood Mr Brooks is in Queensland seeking assistance for his mental health.

He appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on May 18. No plea was required but his lawyer, Mr Beavon asked the matter be adjourned for three weeks so submissions could be made.
