A 20-year-old Stafford man was denied bail at the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday following accusations of a Valentine’s Day assault on Brisbane police officers.
Police will allege Jias David Leedie was heavily intoxicated when he was approached by officers at the Petrie train station on Sunday, February 14.
The court heard Leedie tried to ignore the officers and move away, then became enraged when they followed him.
It is alleged the altercation escalated to where Leedie was repeatedly spitting at the officers, with saliva landing on one man’s face.
Leedie was arrested and charged with one count each of contravening police direction, going onto a railway track, obstructing a police officer, serious assault of a police officer by spitting, and two counts of serious assault of a public officer by spitting.
Duty lawyer Andrew Stewart, acting as a friend of the court, said Leedie, who works in the construction industry, admitted to spitting, but not spitting at anyone in particular.

He appeared from the Pine Rivers watch house for a bail application hearing and did not enter a plea.
Magistrate Trevor Morgan denied bail on the grounds that Leedie was too great a risk of committing an offence and will therefore remain in custody until his next appearance on March 12.
