Tributes flow for moped rider Jared Hoggan and passenger Simon Fergestad after Morayfield crash

Police have charged a Sunshine Coast man over the deaths of two men who were riding a moped when they were allegedly struck from behind by a vehicle which police say left the scene of the crash.

A second man has died after an horrific crash on Friday night where a moped was allegedly hit from behind by another vehicle, leaving its occupants fighting for life on the road.

Tributes are flowing in after it was confirmed the rider of the moped had passed away in hospital.

Caboolture South man Jared Hoggan, 30, has been identified as the second victim of the shocking accident which has left the community shattered.

Caboolture South man Simon Fergestad, 32, was the pillion passenger on a Yamaha CY50 when they were struck from behind by a dark-coloured vehicle.

Police have charged a 38-year-old Palmwoods man with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while affected by an intoxicating substance, and two counts of callous disregard for an injured person over the incident.

Police will allege the duo were travelling east on Caboolture River Rd, Morayfield, about 9.10pm when they were hit from behind and knocked into a stationary 4WD that was sitting on Kenneth St, waiting to turn into Caboolture River Rd.

Police have launched Operation Tango Fallout to investigate the crash, with officers appealing for public information to find the third vehicle.

Police seized a dark coloured Skoda Octavia from a Nambour address on Saturday night.

Mr Hoggan’s sister Charlotte took to Facebook to confirm her brother’s passing.

“R.I.P Jared my beautiful brother I love you loads and loads cya (sic) when I get there,” she wrote.

Geoff Bolton said “R.I.P my brother Jared ur no longer in pain bro. Jarrad and Simmo fly high brothers you’s both will be dearly missed love u (sic) both.”

There has been an outpouring of grief on social media for Mr Fergestad as well, who tragically died at the scene on Friday night.

Sister Kirstie writing: “R. I. P to my youngest brother Simon Fergestad.”

“I'm at a loss for words, this shouldn’t have happened,” she said.

“You were always a ratbag, I hope you’re at peace now. I love you forever, love your big sis Kes.”

While his brother Steven wrote that Mr Hoggan and Simon always “said they will always be together till the end.”

Lachy Leplastrier wrote: “Rest In Peace Simon Fergestad taken to soon brother.”

“I can't believe that you’re gone taken from this world way too early. But I know for a fact that you’re going to tear the place up there,” Jake Rogers wrote.

Amy Monique said “I can’t believe it Simo. my heart is broken.”

“13 years of friendship and I can honestly say our friendship never skipped a beat.

“You my friend are solid, your heart is made of gold, with such a beautiful soul and I’m positive I’ll never meet anyone like you again … you’re one of a kind Simo!.”

Talisha Young wrote: “My god, in shock is an understatement. Deepest sympathies to your family, you were always one to make people laugh.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Anyone who saw the motorbike prior to the crash and who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage are urged to come forward.

The Palmwoods man was denied police bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday.
