RSPCA call for information after ibis shot with an arrow at Caboolture

One ibis has had to be euthanised after being shot with an arrow, in the suburb with the worst rate of animal cruelty in the state – but the RSPCA fear more animals may have been injured or killed by the same person. WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES

RSPCA vets were unable to save an ibis which had been shot by an arrow at Caboolture two weeks ago.

RSPCA Qld spokesman Michael Beatty said they had received several calls during the past two weeks about an ibis wondering around with an arrow in it.

The bird was finally rescued last week after becoming tangled between two hockey nets at St Columban’s College, Caboolture.

Mr Beatty said a number of arrows were found in the vicinity.

He said it was likely more ibis or other animals and birds had been targeted.

The arrow caused irreparable damage to the abdomen of the ibis and it had to be euthanased.

“Our vets say the bird would have been in tremendous pain,” Mr Beatty said.

“The area was severely infected and the bird would have living with this injury for up to two weeks.”

Caboolture does not have a good track record when it comes to animal cruelty matters.

The suburb has had the highest number of cruelty incidents in Queensland for at least the past 10 years.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to phone 1300 ANIMAL.
