A vacant lot north of Brisbane could be home to a massive new shopping centre if given the green light by Moreton Bay Regional Council.
Plans to build a shopping centre at a 20,470 sqm site at 29 Youngs Crossing Rd Joyner were lodged with the council earlier this month.
The shopping centre, Joyner Central, is proposed to include a national line supermarket, medical centre and multiple speciality retail and food outlets.
It was not stated in the proposal which major supermarket retailer would be setting up shop in the new complex.
The development will include 275 carparks.
While surrounding sites are mostly vacant or rural areas at the moment the precinct is expected to boom with multiple housing estates recently approved by council.
In 2019 Moreton Bay Regional Council approved an application to subdivided three lots at 23, 25, and 28 Gordons Crossing Rd East into 66 lots.
Then in April 2020 the council gave a developer permission to transform one lot at 386 Samsonvale Rd, Joyner into 105 lots.
A large block at 9 Regent St Joyner has also been approved for 44 new homes.
The development proposal for Joyner Central states these approvals show there is plenty of growth happening in Joyner.
If approved Joyner Central will a four minute drive from the existing Market Place Warner Shopping Centre, which has more than 35 retailers including an Aldi supermarket, Woolworths and a medical centre.
A traffic report submitted with the application states that access to the proposed centre would be via Gordons Crossing Rd and Youngs Crossing Rd.
The report suggested that if the development is approved the council should require the developer to build a new 30m right turn lane and extend the existing right turn lane on the northern approach by 15m.
Wolter Consulting Group, who lodged the application with council, have been involved in several other major projects across the Moreton region including the Caboolture to Wamuran Rail Trail, Caboolture Sports Club, Lawnton Lakes residential development, Sovereign Rise at Kallangur and Griffin Crest estate.
