A MAN who had been making threats has surrendered to police after SERT officers surrounded an apartment north of Brisbane
Acting Inspector, Pat O’Loughlin said earlier that police went to the apartment early this morning for a routine welfare check, where he appeared agitated and refused to communicate with police.
The 45-year-old man had the words IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and explosives written on a piece of pipe jammed in his front window which caused police to create a 60m exclusion around the area.
“There have been no specific threats, we just consider him an unknown risk at this stage,” Acting Inspector O’ Loughlin said.
“We don’t know what his issue is, that is the main problem,”
EARLIER: A MAN who has locked himself inside his apartment north of Brisbane made numerous calls to TV media stations, saying “police were after him” while he made threats.
Police closed off Lee Street around 1pm, throwing parents plans to pick their children up from the neighbouring Caboolture High School into disarray.
While a 60m exclusion zone has been established around the home, police believe no one else is at risk.
Parents waiting to pick their children up from school said that Caboolture High had kept them up to date via text message.
“They’ve (the school) been great,” Nel Kinch said. “They’ve given us plenty of updates and kept us at ease.”

Police say there is no threat to the school or students.
On its Facebook page, the school posted: “The school is operating as per normal, students are in class and learning and there is no risk to our school community.” .
The school said buses would operate as normal at pick-up time but students would exit through the school’s rear entrance.
A plan has been prepared for the end of the school day with buses to collect students from a lower oval area near the intersection of McPherson St.
Traffic diversions are in place.
