“An additional operating theatre at Redcliffe Hospital will mean more capacity to provide more surgeries and procedures for patients,” Mr Miles said.
“We’re continuing to invest in more services so Redcliffe Hospital can continue to meet the growing demands of its community.”
Redcliffe Hospital Medical Director Denise MacGregor said the hospital provided a wide range of surgical services.
“Last year we performed more than 9000 operations and procedures in our six operating theatres. Of those, nearly half were emergency cases,” Dr MacGregor said.
“A seventh operating theatre is something we’ve been hoping for, for a long time.
“An additional seventh operating theatre provides additional capacity to look after the emergency cases that can’t wait.”
Apollo Property Group have been awarded the tender for the operating theatre expansion, with construction due to begin early next year. It is expected to be completed by mid-next year.
