THE son of a priest descended so deep into a world of violence and crime he ended up swapping the church for a jail cell.
Despite his family ties to the Samoan Methodist Church, Iesili Letoa had accumulated a string of convictions before his 26th birthday, including dishonesty offences and public nuisance.
From custody at Woodford Correctional Centre Wednesday, the father of two was sentenced for 13 more offences.
Letoa was dealt with by Magistrate Peter Hasted ex-parte due to scheduling problems for the video link at the jail.
In total the “remorseful” landscaper was given more than four-and-a-half years’ worth of jail sentences which will, however, be served concurrently.
The lengthiest convictions, for threatening violence — discharging firearms or other acts, entering a premises and committing an indictable offence, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, demanded nine months in jail.
He also pleaded guilty to receiving tainted property, and possessing drug utensils.
Letoa’s defence said he had planned to reconnect with both his family and his culture upon his release from custody.
Having already served 161 days behind bars, Letoa was released immediately on parole.
