Police urge drivers to lock their cars after spate of thefts across the Moreton region

A spree of thefts in the Moreton region has prompted a warning from police for residents to keep their cars locked. FIND OUT WHAT THIEVES ARE TARGETING

Drivers licences, cash, cards and electronics – the items you leave in plain sight are luring thieves to your vehicle.

A spate of theft from cars has left police shaking their heads after almost 50 vehicles were broken into across the Moreton region.

Since August 1, officers have received 49 complaints of theft from vehicles including incidents where registration plates have been stolen from cars.

The surge in illegal activity has prompted police to launch Operation Tango Dartmouth.

The operation is set to prevent further offences and work towards locating offenders.

Officers say most of the reported break ins are carried out by opportunistic thieves wandering the streets trying door handles to identify unlocked cars.

Recently, police attended a Pine Rivers public car park where they observed vehicles with property in full view including driver‘s licences, passport, cameras, cash, backpacks, laptops and keys with addresses attached.

Acting Superintendent Paul Ready is concerned residents are not taking vehicle security seriously.

“Police are concerned that people are not locking their cars and removing their valuables,” Acting Superintendent Ready said.

“This is a simple way to ensure that you do not fall victim to this type of offence.

“We are asking for your assistance to help reduce these types of offences.”
