A policeman has been stabbed in the shoulder at a house north of Brisbane, after officers were called to a disturbance.
It will be alleged officers and other emergency services were called to a residence in Jones St, Rothwell, about 9.25am on Monday, when a 30-year-old man armed with a knife allegedly stabbed the senior constable.
He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
The 30-year-old man was taken into custody and has been transported to hospital with a self-inflicted wound to his stomach.
Moreton District Crime Group Inspector Ben Fadian confirmed a male senior constable from the Deception Bay police station was stabbed and was receiving treatment in hospital.
“I can report the male senior constable is in a stable condition and he is being supported by friends, family and relatives,” Insp Fadian said.
“Police were dispatched to the address regarding a disturbance at the address.
“Very soon after, police were confronted by this man and the officer was stabbed in the shoulder.
“He was taken into custody and as a result of that, we located what appears to be a self-inflicted stab wound on the man.
“It is confronting for the police involved, but they are also being provided with support by relevant internal support mechanisms.”
Redcliffe resident Leah Whetton said she waited with some neighbours as the incident unfolded and said she saw police taser the man.
“He was not dropping, he was just taking it,” she said.
“Saw another man jump over a police car and fall on the ground and then I saw an officer come out of the property with a bandage over his shoulder.”
The man remains in hospital under police guard and is expected to appear in Redcliffe Magistrates Court tomorrow via a video link.
He has been charged with attempted murder, serious assault police while armed, going armed so as to cause fear and wilful damage.
A neighbour on the street said they were there as police drew their guns and yelled at a man to get to the ground before tasering him.
The neighbour said she saw a man tasered multiple times.
Two different neighbours said they saw the man and an officer nursing stab wounds and being loaded into ambulances, with one of the witnesses describing the family who lived at the residence as “nice”.
A neighbour further down the street said they woke up on his public holiday to 10 police cars and ambulances lining the entire street.
The Jones St resident of 10 years said he knew the father of the man allegedly involved in passing and described the father as a nice man. Police have not accused the remaining family members who live at the home of any wrongdoing.
He said he couldn’t believe the commotion on what was normally a quiet street.
Redcliffe resident Leah Whetton said she was walking her dog at the Rothwell Pony Club about 9.30am when she saw a dozen police and ambulance vehicles rush to the scene.
“I saw all these police cars arrive at once,” she said.
“I have never seen police cars fly around a corner like that with their sirens going.”
Ms Whetton waited with some neighbours as the incident unfolded and said she saw police taser the man.
