For elite Pine Rivers St Andrews hockey talent Liam Hart, the sport has been his passion since he was aged five.

Hart, who earlier this week won the Pine Rivers Press Local Sports Star award, turned out to be a natural with the hockey stick as a child, which is not surprising.

He is, after all, the nephew of Kookaburras great Mark Hagar.

While he is following in his uncle’s footsteps, Hart is his own man and is mounting his own list of achievements.

This year he was named the Queensland under 18’s captain and gained selection in the Queensland under 21’s team.

On top of this, he also represented Australia in the under 21’s side that played in Spain this year, an accomplishment he described as his biggest success.

When asked about his ultimate sporting goal, Hart said: “I would love to play in the Olympics for the Kookaburras one day.’’

While his uncle was a major part of his hockey life, Liam said it was his mum and dad who introduced him to the sport.

“I could not have achieved what I have without the help of my mother Helen and father Greg who helped me develop the basics from the time I started playing,” the Padua College year 12 student said.

Hart said he loved the sport because of the “friendship and challenge of playing men at a young age in both club and representative level”.

Aside from his uncle Mark, Hart said his QAS coach Mark Wells had been a big influence.

“I have also learned so much from my QAS coach Mark Wells and I hope I can continue to learn from him,’’ Hart said.
