A painter accused of hitting a neighbour’s car during a disturbance in the middle of a Caboolture street has been denied bail today.
Daniel Liam McKinnon, was allegedly recorded by a neighbour during the disturbance, however he told Caboolture Magistrates Court — where he appeared today via video link from the Pine Rivers watch house — that he would contest the matters which included allegations of him driving into a neighbour’s car.
McKinnon is accused of several offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, obstructing police while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and causing a public nuisance.
McKinnon, who is currently serving a suspended sentence, applied for bail today however was denied by Magistrate Peter Hasted who mentioned his violent criminal history.
The decision was made despite McKinnon’s lengthy argument in favour of bail, where he told the court he ran a painting business which employed three staff.
He also said he was in fact meant to attend a meeting today to discuss a contract to paint the Caboolture courthouse.
“I need to get back to work... and it would be absolutely devastating for all involved if I was to be incarcerated,” McKinnon said.
The court heard the alleged disturbance happened in Christopher Court and involved some neighbours, but McKinnon said he generally had a good relationship with them.
“There is absolutely no hostility in that street other than what happened last night.
“This is just a misunderstanding.”
He will remain in custody to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court at a later date.
