The Morayfield shopping centre once slated to become a giant Kaufland hypermarket will instead be transformed into an food and retail destination.

Developers Gordon Corp, behind a string of Bunnings stores and other retail centres, has been charged with giving the village a facelift which will bring with it a host of new stores.

The centre, located next door to Morayfield Shopping Centre, was left quiet after the exit of collapsing department store Harris Scarfe but was expected to boom once more with arrival of Kaufland — which bought the site from Morayfield Shopping Centre owner Leda for Holdings $20.5 million.

However earlier this year the mega German outlet pulled the pin on its Australian plans, retreating from the market despite locking down several sites and hiring more than 200 staff.

Since then agents from Colliers International and Transact Capital have worked with Gordon Corp to begin the roll-out a new-look centre and revised list of tenancies which Colliers retail leasing director Luke McGrath said would be focused around dining and convenience outlets like groceries, fruit and vegetables.

He said they were currently seeking tenants to fill the now vacant 2500msq Harris Scarfe footprint among other sites and had already experienced an “overwhelming” response from retailers, including interest from one Melbourne-based food brand.

Large names Jenny Craig, Rivers, Mr Toys Toyworld will remain at the centre along with Bank of Queensland and Imaging Queensland and key smaller tenancies including the site’s barber and hair dresser which Mr McGrath said had been at the site for more than a decade.

They will be joined by a range of food outlets include cafes, a fast food retailer, restaurant and bar.
