A court north of Brisbane has heard how a Pine Mountain woman tried to hide clothes in her bag while in a fitting room, before lying to staff that she bought them at another store.

Olivia Leisemann, 20, faced the Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 18, charged with unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

The court heard at 1.37pm on March 29, 2023, Leisemann took three items of clothing from the rack inside Ally at the Morayfield Shopping Centre, before concealing them whilst inside the fitting room and walking out without paying.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Shannon Fox said that Leisemann walked out with two tops and a pair of denim jeans valued at $128.97 hidden in her bag.

“When the defendant was questioned by police, she said she removed the three clothing items from the racks, placed them in her bag while inside the fitting room,” Ms Fox said.

“She left the clothes hangers in the fitting room which were later located by staff.

“She attempted to walk out and was stopped by staff for a bag check.

“She told staff that she purchased the clothes from another store at North Lakes and they left the price tags on the clothes by mistake.”

The court heard staff realised Leisemann stole the clothes and notified police shortly after Leisemann walked out of the shopping centre and into another person’s car.

Ms Fox told the court police and security patrolled the shopping centre but failed to locate her, before police then tracked her movements from Ally on CCTV footage.

The court heard police got in touch with the vehicle’s owner and then were able to contact Leisemann on her phone.

She then voluntarily attended the Morayfield Police Beat a short time later and removed the stolen clothes from her bag.

Leisemann’s Lawyer Liz Schonknecht said Leisemann suffered from depression and anxiety and at the time of the shoplift, she had been unable to see her psychologist who had been ill for four months.

Ms Schonknecht also said Leisemann earns $500 a week as a RSL gaming attendant.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler fined Leisemann, who pleaded guilty, $150 and did not record a conviction.
