A shopping centre north of Brisbane will get its second upgrade in as many years – this one making way for a major supermarket retailer to move in and creating hundreds of new jobs.
Developers Mintus, are seeking permission to expand the footprint of Deception Bay Square Shopping Centre, to make way for a new Coles supermarket.
If approved it will be the first Coles in Deception Bay – with the next closest being Kippa-Ring or Kallangur.
PLANS FOR NEW $30M RETAIL HUB AT NEWPORT REVEALED
The Coles will be built next to the existing Woolworths tenancy.
Mintus hope Moreton Bay Regional Council will allow them to expand by 955 sqm to create room for the Coles, a new loading dock, click and collect area and a new tenancy.
The development application also details plans to upgrade the pedestrian access, add new shad sails and trolley bays.
A Coles spokesman said the new supermarket would create hundreds of new retail and construction jobs for locals.
“The proposed development would represent a multimillion-dollar investment in the Moreton Bay region, offering residents more choice, great value and an enhanced shopping experience,” he said.
It will be the second major development Mintus have undertaken at the shopping centre since purchasing it in March 2017 for $37.5 million.
That project is finished creating room for medical services, a gym, cafe, childcare centre and fresh produce retailer.
