A ‘strategically located’ childcare centre could soon add to the boom of centres surrounding a Moreton Bay school, if plans for the one-storey, 88 place centre go ahead.

TAL GP Projects Early Learning Pty Ltd has lodged a development application to build a 88-place childcare centre at 364 Hauton Road, Burpengary.

The one-storey childcare centre would include five activity rooms, large outdoor play area, amentias and staff facilities, set across a 3,000m² site.

The site of the proposed childcare centre is a rectangular shape, located directly behind Burpengary Meadows State School and if approved, would join three other childcare centres that surrounded the school on Rowley Road.

The Department of Education’s latest total enrolment number for Burpengary Meadows State School is 676 students from Prep-Year 6.

“The proposed development involves a Childcare centre that is strategically located to support the adjoining Burpengary Meadows State School and nearby residential,” the report reads.

“Furthermore, the proposed development provides an essential service for parents and caregivers who live, work and study in the nearby locality.”

There would be 287m² of activity room gross floor area, 616m2 of outdoor play area and the total gross floor area would be 318m2 with an overall site cover of 21.2 percent.

“From a design perspective, the proposed development represents a high-quality outcome for the site both in terms of its built form and siting, in addition to contributing to the existing community character of the locality,” the report reads.

“Furthermore, the buildings’ height and scale are consistent with the surrounding residential uses, maintaining amenity values and protecting important townscape and landscape elements.”

The centre would have 14 staff caring for 24 children aged 0-2 years, 20 2-3 years and 44 3-5 years.

The centre would be open 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and include 29 car parking spaces.
