The project, first announced by council in 2018, is proposed to include a national grade competition track, lighting, a clubhouse, spectator seating and parking.

The new facility has been designed to meet the long term needs of the growing club as well as cater for regional, state and national competitions.

Council’s report states the facility will attract competitions providing a boost to the local economy, especially to hotels and the hospitality industry.

On Wednesday’s councillors will decide on who to award the construction contract too.

Council officers have recommended the $3.713,502 tender be awarded to J.Mac Constructions PTY LTD.

Work is scheduled to start in January and be finished by December 2021.

This is just one of several major sporting infrastructure projects council has in the works.

An $18 million football facility is expected to be built at South Pine Sports Complex in time for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023.

Work has also started on the new $10 million Griffin Sports Complex, due to open in 2022.

The project received a $1.5 million grant for the project through the state government’s COVID-19 fund.
