The cost of sewerage and water bills will fall for most households across a southeast Queensland council in the new financial year
Residents of Moreton Bay Regional Council area are expected to see a bill reduction of up to $19 a year.
Annual water supply and sewerage services bills will fall in the next financial year for most Moreton Bay households.
Moreton Bay customers will save $19 a year following Unitywater’s decision to reduce fixed access charges.
The reductions are partially offset by a $10 rise in the state government bulk water component.
Savings in fixed access charges will be complemented by stable usage charges that have been locked in for the eighth year in a row.
An average Moreton Bay household, using around 375 litres of water per day, will drop by $9 in 2022-23.
Acting Chief Executive Pauline Thomson said Unitywater is aware of the rising cost of living pressures on households.
“Families in Moreton Bay have had to cope with a lot in the past couple of years, from COVID-19 to rises in the cost of living to extreme weather and floods,” Ms Thomson said.
With these latest reductions, Unitywater’s component of Moreton Bay water and sewerage bills has fallen a total of 5.7 per cent since 2014.”
The utility’s volume-based usage charges remain at 2014-15 prices.
Ms Thomson said Unitywater would do its best to manage costs for customers while investing in sustainable water and sewerage infrastructure to serve a growing population in the local region.
Over the next five years, Unitywater will also invest over $1 billion in new projects and improvements across Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Noosa.
Meanwhile, Unitywater will also continue to support customers as the region recovers from COVID-19 impacts and extreme wet weather.
“Our priority hasn’t changed: it’s maintaining high-quality, safe and reliable services for Moreton Bay households, while keeping bills as low as we can,” Ms Thomson said.
“If anyone is having trouble paying their bill, contact us as soon as possible. Help is available.”
The 2022-23 prices come into effect on July 1, 2022.
