Beachmere man Michael John Towell faces Caboolture Court for allegedly swinging an axe at bike rider

A 24-year-old Moreton Bay region man has faced court for allegedly chasing a bike rider with an axe as they passed his home and telling police officers to ‘f**k off’.

A 24-year-old man has faced court for allegedly chasing a bike rider with an axe who was passing his home and telling police officers to ‘f**k off’ just north of Brisbane.

Michael John Towell faced Caboolture Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with threatening a bike rider with an axe and obstructing two police officers.

He faced one charge of going armed to cause fear and two charges of obstructing a police officer, all from April 6.

The court heard Mr Towell had his bail refused on April 7.

Police allege that on April 6 between 1 and 1.30pm Mr Towell approached a man who was riding his bike past Mr Towell’s Beachmere home and tried to push him off his bike.

Mr Towell allegedly went back inside his home to retrieve his axe and then came out and chased the bike rider while swinging the axe above his head.

The court heard Mr Towell allegedly said to the bike rider ‘do you think I’m scared to hit you with it?’ while raising the axe above his head.

Police were called to the scene of the incident, and Mr Towell then allegedly locked himself inside his home.

After approximately 15 minutes, the court heard Mr Towell tried to escape police via his garage.

Police went to block him and Mr Towell allegedly tried to force his way past them and told the four officers to ‘f**k off’ while they arrested him.

Two officers allegedly received injuries to their shoulders from Mr Towell.

The court heard Mr Towell has a long criminal history including possessing a knife in a public place, a fail to appear, and five breaches of bail conditions from 2018.

Magistrate Andrew Hackett said these were serious allegations and had a full brief ordered for July 26 at Caboolture Magistrates Court for a hearing review.
