MORETON BAY Regional Council will reopen hundreds of playgrounds and community facilities this weekend in line with the Sate Government’s easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
Libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gyms, skate parks, barbecues and off-leash dog parks will all re-open on Saturday.
In line with Government restrictions, the use of these facilities will be limited to 10 people at a time and all social distancing provisions still apply.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery said it was important residents continued to follow the rules through the slow transition back to normality.

“After being cooped-up at home with the kids, I’m just as excited as everyone else to get back outside and enjoy our free public amenities,” Cr Flannery said.
“Our residents have been among the best in southeast Queensland at abiding by social distancing restrictions over the past few months, and it’s essential that we keep that up.”
Council will put up s ‘Your Safety is in Your Hands’ signs at all facilities to remind people to keep their distance and wash their hands.

“Your safety is in your hands and I trust locals to take all necessary precautions to make sure we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19,” Cr Flannery said.
“That means continuing to use hand sanitiser and if you choose to use facilities like outdoor gym equipment or a barbecue, clean them before use.
“We’re currently in the process of thoroughly cleaning all our libraries before reopening, and our staff have been trained to maintain social distancing, provide sanitisers, wipe down all surfaces and quarantine returned items for 24 hours.”
Cr Flannery said Moreton Bay Region’s 10 library branches would reopen with extended hours to give patrons greater flexibility and find visitation times that suit them best.
“All our libraries except Woodford and Deception Bay are now open until 6pm each weeknight and each one will have a special late night opening sometime during the week,” he said.
“While we’re excited to reopen, your safety is our top priority. So only 10 customers will be allowed at a time in a library following a one-in, one-out policy to avoid overcrowding.”
Library goers will get just 15 minutes to browse or can spend 30 minutes using the public computers – which can be booked ahead of time via phone, email or online.
The late night opening for each library is as follows:
Albany Creek – Thursday until 8pm
Arana Hills – Tuesday until 8pm (once the refurbishment is done)
