PARKING PAIN TO FOLLOW CABOOLTURE HOSPITAL UPGRADE
To avoid the fee hospital patients, visitors and staff have taken to parking in surrounding streets – often illegally, blocking driveways and parking near corners and intersections.
A resident, who lives in a street surrounding the Redcliffe Hospital, told the Herald, in October, she had been asking the council to install painted parking bays and yellow lines on the corners for several years.
A Moreton Bay Regional Council spokesman said, in October, council was investigating the impact of the new paid for hospital parking on surrounding streets.
RESIDENTS FEAR MORE CONGESTION WHEN PAID PARKING STARTS
“Council will make a decision to remove or add further parking restrictions once conditions settle and there is a reduction in complaints made by residents regarding off-street parking matters in the area,” the spokesman said.
The resident, who does not wish to be named, said that council has now dropped notices in all letterboxes advising that it would be installing parking bays and yellow lines next year.
The letter reads:
“Council has received several complaints from residents regarding vehicles parking across driveways and close to intersections in the area around the Redcliffe Hospital.
“To better manage parking in the streets surrounding the hospital council is proposing to formalise parking bays …”
The resident said it was a great result.
“Better late than never,” the resident said.
