Moreton Bay Regional Council has revealed some major changes at three of its skate parks – worth $3.8 million.
The skate parks at Albany Creek, Morayfield and Deception Bay are in for some major upgrades.
Riders at Deception Bay have been calling for upgrades at the Deception Bay facility since 2017.
Some youths labelled it outdated, others said the whole layout needed a change and also criticised the lack of water bubblers.
It seems council has listened with most of those concerns being included in the upgrade.
The revamped park will include an escalating kerb fun box, an island, open mini bowl, a jersey barrier, mogul and a quarter pipe.
Council will also improve the lighting, amenities and a new shade shelter.
Morayfield Skate Park is also set for a major upgrade with plans to include a manual pad with pole jam, fun box with long rail, new quarter pipe and a flat bank to jersey. The half pipe will be staying but will be relocated.
At Albany Creek the park is getting a major redesign.
Once complete it will include a five foot bowl with subbox, three-stair set and ramp, 1.8m bowl, mogul, quarter pipe, downrail and a hubba.
The new skate park designs are open for public consultation until February 26.
Mayor Peter Flannery urged skaters, scooters, BMX riders and their parents to get online to check out the new concept designs and provide feedback.
“Based on more than 400 survey responses Council has come up with a range of designs that will shape new skate parks in Albany Creek, Morayfield and Deception Bay,” Mayor Flannery said.
“This is $3.8 million worth of works so we want to make sure we get it right and who better to tell us than skate park users themselves.
“Initial feedback has highlighted the community’s desire to create family friendly facilities, ensure adequate lighting and shade, build more obstacles, host learn to ride workshops and more.
“I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the surveys and who shared their ideas.”
Cr Flannery said there skate parks at North Lakes, Bray Park, Redcliffe and Caboolture were next in line for upgrades.
