Construction is set to begin this month on a new multimillion dollar works facility in a growing area north of Brisbane.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has revealed the design for its new mega works facility revealing plans to close three of its depots, moving to a centralised model.

The new $34.3 million dollar works depot, intersection and road upgrade at Boundary Rd in Narangba, will be built by national construction company, ADCO Constructions.

Three works depots at Petrie, Burpengary and Deception Bay will be consolidated into the one facility.

The council says the move will help to reduce maintenance and operational costs.

More than 320 staff will be housed in the new base, which will include greater storage, a fleet workshop and staff amenities.

Mayor Peter Flannery says (the facility) will improve response times to requests, by building a major works depot in the heart of the region.

“In less than 15 years, this region will have a greater population than Tasmania, and a greater demand for essential services,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Part of this upgrade will include the construction of a new intersection to provide safe entry and exit points into the new depot.

“As well as rehabilitating approximately 950m of Boundary Road to improve the surface.”

The new facility is expected to open mid-2023, weather permitting.

“While we need to spend now to make this change, the long-term savings for the community and Council will be significant,” Cr Flannery said.

“From upkeeping parks, to fixing potholes and cracked footpaths, and providing weed management, this team is out every day in every corner of the region.

“We care about our frontline staff, so it was important this new facility delivered a modern and sustainable space to provide a safe and more productive working environment for staff.”
